Scientific papers searching – the next step?

I was asked this week if there’s any site that allows free academic literature searching with a good download facility for references of interest.  Did I mention that the expectation is that this should be free?  Yes, they know about sites such as Scirus, but that only allows up to 25 records to be downloaded and those don’t come with abstracts.  Well, this is talking paid search, as far as I can see, such as logging on to SciSearch or ISI Web of Knowledge.  I don’t know of any free science search engine that also allows citations with abstracts to be downloaded….yet.  Perhaps this will be the next step.
